THE STORY
Growing Up is the children's clothing brand that lives on for generations, that is not dictated by fashion and seasonal colours, and that does not try to turn children into little adults. Children should be allowed to be children, play their imaginative games with themselves and each other, and not worry about being fashionable - children's clothes should be soft, comfortable, functional and easy to wash.
Growing Up was created in 1996 by our head designer Henriette Steffensen, who for the first few years sewed all the clothes herself and sold from the small shop on Jægersborg Alle north of Copenhagen. In fact, that's where it all started! It's Henriette's great creativity, energetic drive, practicality and stylish eye for simplicity and function that has formed the basis of the company HSCPH. Since its beginnings in the small shop, the company has evolved into an internationally recognized design house that delivers the EU produced designs to over 950 stores worldwide.
With the 3 lifestyle-based brands, the men's brand CARL by steffensen, the main brand HENRIETTE STEFFENSEN COPENHAGEN for women, and now Growing Up relaunched for babies and toddlers, the whole family can enjoy these high quality all year round lifestyle collections.
THE COLLECTION
The children's clothing collection offers a few well chosen and well-crafted models from 3 months to 6 years. Each model is versatile, so you get the most out of your purchase. The clothes are spacious and easy to grow into, and there are not a multitude of sizes to choose from, which also makes them ideal as a gift. The child can wear the clothes for longer than the more traditional collections. Sleeves and legs are rolled up and folded down as the child grows.
The collection is unisex and based on calm colours without a lot of details. It's basic design at its best and everything can be mixed and matched with what your child already has. It can be passed on to the next child - regardless of gender.

Certified, soft and cosy clothes you can snuggle up in that don't tighten, constrict, prick or scratch. Over many years we have developed our very special fleece quality produced in Italy, 30% of which is sustainable viscose. Read more about our materials here. All elements of every design are OEKO TEX® Class 1 certified, with extra enzyme tests to ensure that nothing harmful is transferred from the garment to the child. Our children can be exposed to harmful substances in toys, food, skin products and especially clothes that are close to their skin and that they suck on - they put everything in their mouths. WE DESIGN ON CHILDREN'S TERMS
Freedom of movement and functionality are paramount when we design Growing Up. Clothes should not be tight, prickly or constricting - they should be soft, elastic and roomy. It's important that children are not restricted in their play! They should be free to crawl, practise standing up, take their first steps, run and tumble. And if you fall asleep in the middle of it all, it's also nice that there's nothing to constrict. The trousers are roomy with space for nappies and big bellies - the blouses are hooded or crew neck, and one model has a kangaroo pocket to put your favourite block in. The organic cotton ribbing is specially developed to have high elasticity so it can be pulled over the head and off again without any problems, but it also shrinks again so that there isn't an overly large neck opening where your child gets chilled. This is also the rib quality we use for our luxury leggings, which are super soft, keep their shape and are long enough to follow the child’s growth in a longer period. The jumpsuit is super ideal as a sleepsuit for those kids who kick off the duvet, and as an extra warm layer when you're having dinner outside, and the big winther suit isn't needed. We design on the kids' terms and Growing Up is the garment with the soft freedom - that easily becomes a favourite.
CHILDREN GROW - GROWING UP GROWS WITH
Having children is an investment, in love and worry but also something you can see in the budget. The design, colours and quality will last for several children so it can be handed down. The clothes are designed to look great with the sleeves and legs turned up! This extends the lifespan, and you don't have to keep buying a new fleece jumper because the sleeves are too short. Many brands require you to buy 1-3 sizes bigger, but that's not necessary here. The sizes run consistently so it's easy to relate to what size to buy next time. As our children's clothes are not body-hugging underwear and small blouses, there isn't a sea of sizes to navigate, so it's also very easy to find a gift that doesn't need to be exchanged. If you buy it in the summer as outerwear for the cooler days, it will get a turn-up on the sleeves and later that year it will fit as a warm indoor jumper and as an extra layer under a flight suit for romping in the snow.
