There’s something truly special about dressing your child. A daily ritual filled with care – a quiet way of saying “I’m here to protect you” without uttering a word. With Growing Up By Steffensen, we answer that trust with children’s clothing made with the same gentleness.

The story begins back in 1996, in a small shop in northern Copenhagen. Here, founder and head designer Henriette Steffensen sewed every piece of clothing for Growing Up herself. After a few years, production was expanded to sewing rooms – first in Denmark and later in Europe. For over 10 years, the collection was sold in selected shops across Denmark. In 2006, the brand was put to rest – and now, in 2025, Growing Up is being relaunched. Not as something new, but as a natural continuation of everything we’ve always believed in. Henriette’s love for fleece began in that little shop and was reaffirmed as she saw how well her own two sons thrived in the clothes. At the request of women’s fashion retailers, a few styles were later developed for women – laying the foundation for the brand Henriette Steffensen Copenhagen.

Growing Up is a universe of children’s clothing made on children’s terms – for little ones aged 3 months to 6 years. The collection consists of carefully selected unisex styles, each with its own purpose and reason for being – all soft, comfortable, functional, and easy to wash. Designed with freedom of movement in mind and based on a philosophy where children are free to be children – to play, dream, and grow at their own pace.

The garments are roomy and made to follow the child through both time and play. Sleeves and pant legs can easily be rolled up or down as the child grows. Each design is created to be worn in multiple ways – so you get the most out of your purchase.

Growing Up shares the same design DNA and values as the rest of HSCPH. Our collections are not trend-based, and we don’t launch new styles every season. Instead, we offer a wide selection of colors – without loud patterns or distracting details. The designer’s philosophy is that children, not their clothes, should take center stage. We design timeless clothing that is relevant year-round – season after season – and built for everyday adventures, kind to the skin, and rooted in our No Waste philosophy. This is also reflected in our unique nursing pillow, which offers excellent support while being wonderfully soft.

All production takes place in the EU – from the soft materials to cutting and sewing. Every element of each design is OEKO-TEX® Class 1 certified – the highest standard for textiles. Additional enzyme tests are performed to ensure that nothing harmful is transferred from the garment to the child – even if it ends up in their mouth. Children can be exposed to harmful substances through toys, food, skincare – and especially through clothing that sits directly against their skin. Unfortunately, chemicals in textiles can cause allergic reactions in many. OEKO-TEX® certification is your guarantee that Growing Up clothing is free from harmful chemicals of any kind. From ribbing to seams, from buttons to thread – everything is chosen and developed with care.
