DO YOU KNOW THE FRUSTRATION OF TWISTING T-SHIRTS SEAMS?
Most people have experienced the annoyance of a new t-shirt twisting around itself after the first wash, and no matter how much you try to fix it, it just won't sit right again. There is a perfectly natural explanation for this. Large industrial knitting machines knit continuously in circles. If the yarns used are spun in the same direction, the twisting effect is amplified, causing the fabric to twist round and round.
To hide this, the fabric is forcibly straightened into straight shape, and fixate hot steam. Your blouse is then cut and sewn. When you buy it in the store, you can't see any difference. But when you wash it for the first time, everything returns to its original state, and the twisting reappears on the body, arms, and legs. It's so frustrating because it leads to a lot of clothes being discarded after only a few wears, which is a waste for the environment, the planet's resources, and your wallet.
This problem can easily be avoided – it simply requires investing in the right yarns and working with knitting factories that adhere to high-quality standards.
CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH OUR KNITTERS
Over many years, we have developed close partnerships with our knitting factories in Italy and Portugal, where only the best yarns are used. HSCPH guarantees that the side seams will stay in place on all our designs. Both our FLEECE, COTTON, and VISCOSE JERSEY are knitted, so we have extensive experience in producing and delivering designs of the highest quality. Read more about our ORGANIC COTTON and our certified FLEECE here.
Certifications of any kind have nothing to do with the technical quality of the yarns or the knitting process. A small rule of thumb is that the cheaper your t-shirt is, the more likely it is to twist and turn after the first wash.
WHAT IS VISCOSE MADE OF?
Many people think that viscose is a synthetic material – but viscose is made from wood. It is a durable material, and it can be processed into a glossy quality, which some use as a "silk look-alike." We have developed a quality with a dry hand feel as it better suits our design DNA. The trees used for our viscose quality are replanted, and the use of pesticides is prohibited. At the same time, the amount of water used is significantly reduced. We have chosen to produce our JERSEY styles in Lenzing™ ECOVERO™ viscose quality only. ECOVERO™ viscose is a more environmentally friendly and sustainable material than conventional viscose.
ECOVERO™ is produced by the Austrian company Lenzing, which also produces TENCEL™. Lenzing has documented that they produce the materials with up to 50% less water and energy consumption than conventional viscose production. The wood fibers that ECOVERO™ viscose is made from come from FSC or PEFC certified forestry. With conventional viscose, there is no proof that the raw materials have been responsibly sourced, and the conversion process from hard wood fibers to soft textile fibers may have caused water pollution and high energy consumption. ECOVERO™ is also certified with the EU Ecolabel, the EU's environmental label, due to its unique environmental properties.
