WINTER SWIMMING - A PASSION
THE COLD SHIVER... some people can't even imagine doing it - others LOVE it! However, the tingling sensation all over your body when heat and cold meet on either side of your skin is something special.
It's a good idea to wear insulated swim shoes as it's often your feet that get cold first! If you want to stay a little longer, you can keep warm by protecting your head with a sauna hat, as a lot of blood flows through your head. When you get out of the water, dry off as much water as you can and hurry into the warm fleece bathrobe or fleece bath poncho. If you're more hardcore, you can do some special exercises that can effectively warm up your body from the inside before you jump into the fleece. The urge to get out of the cold water is your body telling you that the cold water is dangerous, and it wants to escape! But you're in charge! By breathing slowly and deeply it is easier to relax – and it calms your body.
Some people take a quick dip, others stay in the icy water for several minutes! There are different opinions on how healthy it is and whether winter swimming strengthens the immune system. These are things you'll have to research online. But one thing is important - don't winter swim alone!
SAUNA
The sauna is hottest on the top shelf - if it's your first time, start at the bottom and move up! But it's important to listen to your body - if you feel dizzy or unwell, get out again and make sure you have something to drink - preferably with sugar and salt. In general, it's important to drink plenty of water before spending long periods of time in the sauna - especially during infusion sauna sessions. It's also a good idea not to do infusions sauna sessions on an empty stomach if you haven't done it before. Whether you're sitting on the top or bottom shelf, you can extend your time in the sauna by wearing a sauna hat. It also protects against high heat! We have sauna hats in both 1 and 2 layers, choose the one that suits you best.
INFUSION SAUNA
A sauna master heats up the oven extra well with portions of water or ice, mixed with essential oils with different scents. Then a towel or fan is waved to bring the warm scented air around the entire sauna. The shower master has planned the 2-4 rounds with special scents and blends and usually also relaxing music. Then just let your shoulders slump, close your eyes, take deep breaths through your nose, relax and embrace the heat.
Infusion sauna typically consists of 2-4 rounds inside the sauna, interspersed with equally long breaks to jump into the cold or under the cold shower. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids. The tingling sensation throughout the body becomes even more intense when both heat and cold are extreme.
You're typically not ready to jump into jeans and a shirt afterwards - so you're so happy when there's a nice soft fleece jumpsuit you can just jump into before going home for a nice meal.
